South Glengarry Active Transportation and Trails Plan

A Public Open House was held on the 20th of February at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre as the second round of public consultation for this project.  The materials presented included the overall vision of the plan, a summary of what we heard in the first round of consultation (online survey), information on how we identify projects and their priority, mapping for the planned project locations/facility types as well as their priority, proposed policy recommendations, proposed program opportunities including the identification of some shorter cycling loops within the community and next steps.

We are now looking for your feedback and will be accepting comments on the proposed projects, policies and programs until March 10th, 2025 at the link below.

The Township of South Glengarry is developing its first Active Transportation and Trails Plan (ATTP). The Plan will serve as a foundational strategy for how South Glengarry can improve active mobility options and recreational/tourism opportunities. It aims to provide network, policy, and program recommendations to improve active transportation connections to key destinations and existing and future trails.

Get involved:

Public and stakeholder input is key in developing an Active Transportation and Trails Plan that works for your community. This public open house is our second round of public consultation. The first was an online survey carried out in April 2024 where we had over 250 respondents tell us how and where community members travel within the Township, and what factors influence their decision to use or not use active transportation modes. This information has been integrated into developing the proposed network, policies and program initiatives.

Please join us:

You are invited to participate in the Public Open House:

Date: Thursday, February 13, 2025

Time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Location: Char-Lan Recreation Centre

Address: 19740 John Street, Williamstown

What we will be talking about:

The Open House will present the draft network, policy, and program initiative recommendations. We need your input to hear what you feel will work best for your community.

Questions, ideas or comments:

Comments on the materials presented at the Open house will be received for two weeks following the consultation date. Get in touch! Project website: https://www.southglengarry.com/en/living-here/active-transportation-plan.aspx

Thank you to all that participated in the survey and your interest in South Glengarry's Active Transportation and Trails Plan (ATTP)

The survey marked the first stage of public consultation, and your valuable feedback has been instrumental in shaping the proposed network. The next step will be a Public Open House, where the proposed network, strategies, and initial concepts for implementation priorities will be available for your review and input. This event is tentatively scheduled for late January or early February 2025 and will be advertised in the new year.

Please note that the presentation to Council as part of this project will be to seek approval for the final plan, not for interim steps. This presentation is anticipated to take place in Spring 2025.

Thank you again for your contributions to this exciting initiative!

We need your help in shaping Active Transportation in South Glengarry!

The Township of South Glengarry is thrilled to announce the commencement of our Township's first Active Transportation and Trails Strategy (ATTP). The Plan will serve as a foundational strategy for how South Glengarry can enhance active mobility options and recreational/tourism opportunities for people of all ages and abilities for those who live and visit the community.

Why Active Transportation?

Active transportation is more than just a means to get from one point to another; it is about building a healthier, more connected community. It can also provide opportunities within a community for recreational tourism and economic development. The ATTP aims to foster an environment that supports and encourages active forms of transportation, making them a convenient, safe, and enjoyable option for everyone.

Your Role

You know your community better than anyone, what challenges and barriers prevent you and your family from utilizing active transportation? We need your voice to tell us where to set priorities, where to build infrastructure and what kind of support programs would best serve you and your neighborhood.
